Saturday 26th
April - Ammerdown Bat box checking
Start Time: 3pm
Directions: Go
through the main driveway at Ammerdown Park, park about 50 yards on the left.
It is important
to contact Jacquie for all bat events in case of inclement weather or slight
changes in timing. Please wear warm clothing and bring a torch.

Sunday 27th April
- A day out in the Cotswolds visiting Cricklade and the Cotswold Water Park
Start Time: 9.30am
In the morning
we will walk round North Meadow National Nature Reserve where Snakes Head Fritillaries
carpet the ground in an amazing display. This water meadow bordering the Thames
has many interesting plants. After a little lunch in the Cotswold Gateway Centre
overlooking one of the 100 or so lakes (or take a picnic if you prefer) we will
explore the Water Park. Birds, plants and insects are on the agenda! Please
bring suitable footwear and binoculars if you have them. Meet at the public
car park near the Red Lion in Paulton at 9.30am for car share.

Monday (Bank
Holiday) 5th May - Trip to Long Wood on the Mendips to view the bluebells
Start Time: 1.20pm
at Paulton car park
A full description
is to be found in the newsletter. It is a stunning place to visit. Please meet
at the council car park, opposite the Red Lion Public House in Paulton for car
share as parking near Long Wood is limited. There is a fairly steep climb over
rocky surfaces so stout footwear is advisable.

Friday 9th May
- Moth trapping at Goosard Reserve
Times. 8.30pm
and finishing around 11pm.
We are very lucky
to have Mike Bailey coming along to set the moth trap and help with moth identification.
Mike has been running a moth trap on the edge of Timsbury for nearly 20 years
and is currently co-authoring an atlas, The Moths of the Bristol Region, which
is due to be published at the end of 2008. Bring warm clothes, wellies (or stout
shoes) torch and a warm drink. If the weather is looking too wet and windy you
can 'phone Mike just beforehand on 01761 471000 to check that the meeting is
going ahead. The gates leading to the reserve will be open so parking is no
problem.

May - Conservation Morning at Paulton reserve
Start Time: 10am
Helping Carol
with all sorts of habitat management, just for a couple of hours. We provide
the tools, we just need you!

Sunday 18th May
- Our Annual Survey at Church Farm, a lovely stroll between Loocombe and Holcombe
Woods
Start Time: 9.30am
This is the continuation
of the Bird Survey, which has been ongoing for the past few years. It will be
interesting to note any differences and how the habitat is changing. Binoculars
would be an asset and please wear suitable footgear. This is suitable for beginners
and anyone interested in birds, or just a morning out in the sunshine.

Saturday 24th
May - Butterfly Outing with Phil Hall
Start Time: 9am
This is a very
special day travelling to Bentley Wood near Salisbury to see rare fritillaries
such as Pearl Bordered, Small Pearl Bordered and Marsh Fritillaries. This is
also a good site for birds and flora. If time allows it might be possible to
go to nearby Martin Down to see the Duke of Burgundy and others.
Please meet at the Victoria hall car Park at Radstock for car share where possible.
Phil will provide maps in case the convoy breaks up.
Please bring a packed lunch and wear suitable shoes and clothing.
It is important to ring Phil near the time in case of inclement weather.

- A general interest walk with the Bath Natural History Society to Cleave's
Wood
Start Time: 2.30pm
Please park in
Hinton Charterhouse, and meet at start of Tuggy's Lane, ST772581. Target species:
Fly-, Bee- and other orchids, butterflies, woodland and farmland birds. A leisurely
walk and fairly easy going but muddy in places after rain. Sturdy footwear recommended.

Sunday 1st June
- LEAF open day at Manor Farm, Stratton on the Fosse
Start Time: 12
noon to 3pm
LEAF (Links with
Environment and Farming) Rob Addicott and Jeremy Padfield from Church Farm,
Stratton on the Fosse combine, and this year it takes place at Manor Farm. There
will be tractor and trailer rides, animals, demonstrations, a nature trail,
and something for all the family. Food will be available.
Coming from Radstock, Manor farm is on the main road at the top of the rise
on the left before you reach the village of Stratton.

7th June - Bat Count at Hollow Hole Farm at Gurney Slade
Start Time: 8.45pm
Direction:- From
Old Down Inn go towards Gurney Slade along the A37, in the Village turn Right
sign posted to Binegar, (Station Road) the farm is on your right, about 400
yards along the road, past the Memorial Hall and play field. There is parking
at the farm.

Tuesday 10th
June - Visit to Lady Farm at Chelwood Bridge
Start Time: 6.30pm
There is a full
description of this delightful garden in the newsletter. Directions:- From Farrington
Gurney take the main A37 road towards Bristol. Take the turning right at Chelwood
Bridge onto the A368. Lady farm is along on the right near Barn Lane. Entrance
fee £5 and £2 for tea and home made cake. The walk should last around
2 hours. Please let me know if you are coming (friends and family are very welcome)
as Mrs Pearce needs to know numbers.

June - Bat Walk at White Hole Farm, Holcombe
Start Time: 8.45pm
Directions: From
the Duke of Cumberland at Holcombe head south towards Stoke St Michael. Take
the next turning left opposite the transport yard. Continue along this road
past one left turn, then watch out for a low modern timber clad building on
the left (a bottling plant); this is the entrance to the farm. Go down the track
and keep to the right. There is plenty of parking.

Sunday 6th July
- Visit to Porton Down with the Coleford Wildlife Group
We are very fortunate
to have been invited by the Coleford Wildlife group to join them on a visit
to Porton Down, a defence establishment near Salisbury where we spent a wonderful
day in June 2006. They have places available for our group, if you would like
to go please phone Janet on 01761 232126 who will supply a booking form, and
give full details.

Sunday 13th
July - Butterfly Walk with Phil Hall

A local walk
taking in several key butterfly sites. It will include Cleaves Wood to see the
Silver washed Fritillary.
Please bring something to drink and wear suitable shoes and clothing.

May: meet 4.30 a.m. at Coleford Church Hall for another beautiful dawn chorus
walk in the valley between Holcombe and Coleford. (We saw otters here three
years ago)

June: Edford Meadows - orchids and many other wild flowers in these ancient
meadows of unimproved grassland.
