Project
Purpose
of the project
To
establish, monitor and improve the status of Bats in Cam Valley
area.
What
that involves
-
Carrying out surveys in our area to record bats and roost
sites
-
Monitoring known maternity roosts to provide yearly data
for the Bat Conservation Trust
-
Increasing roosting opportunities by erecting bat boxes
at appropriate sites
-
Carrying out annual inspection of bat boxes
-
Leading bat walks from April – Sept with use of bat
detectors
-
Giving talks and holding workshops to increase public awareness
-
Provide training towards gaining a roost visitor licence
for those wishing to do so
-
Providing an advisory service to members of the public and
landowners raising bat queries
- Providing

- Maintaining
good relationships with landowners and keeping them informed
of activity
- Networking
and maintaining good relationships with other relevant organisations:
English Nature; Bat Conservation Trust, Batscapes, Avon
Bat Group, Wilts Bat Group and Somerset Bat Group
What
we have achieved
We have 14 wooden bat boxes and 6 Schwegler boxes in two separate
locations.
The
following maternity roosts have been found in our area:
-
1 Greater Horseshoe roost
-
2 Lesser Horseshoe roost
-
3 Serotine roosts (one very large roost)
-
2 Common Pipistrelle roosts (Possibly 3)

1 Soprano Pipistrelle roost
