Purpose of the project

To build a database of bird records in Cam Valley area.

What that involves

  • Carrying out surveys to identify the birds in the area
  • Encouraging others to submit bird records
  • Compiling a database from the surveys and records submitted
  • Exchanging records with local records centres BTO, RSPB and Avon & Somerset Bird Recorders
  • Erecting and monitoring nest boxes
  • Safeguarding species and valuable habitat by regular monitoring and liaison with landowners, BTO and RSPB
  • Increasing public knowledge of birds in the area through talks and field trips
  • Maintaining good relationships with landowners and keeping them informed of findings
  • Maintaining good relationships with other relevant organisations, for example: BTO, BOC, RSPB

What we have achieved

Although this project is at an early stage, we are slowly building up a picture of the birds in the area. For instance – we now know of two breeding flocks of Tree Sparrows! Nest boxes for Tree sparrows erected on one site in liaison with RSPB and landowner.
