Purpose
of the project
To survey Cam Valley area for Dormice.
What
that involves
-
Identifying potentially suitable habitat
- Carrying
out surveys using day nest tubes from March to November
- Checking
for other signs such as nut shells in the autumn
-
Encouraging Landowners to manage the habitat appropriately
-
Liaising with licensed workers when signs of dormouse found
-
Maintaining good relationships with landowners and keeping
them informed of progress
- Feeding
survey results into local and national recording schemes
such as: Dormice On Your Doorstep Project; Bristol Environmental
Records Centre; Mammal Society.
What
we have achieved
Pilot surveys carried out in 2007 at three sites. No Dormice
found but two Yellow-Necked Mice found in tubes.
