Adult dormouse Dormouse Project

Purpose of the project

To survey Cam Valley area for Dormice.

What that involves

  • Identifying potentially suitable habitat
  • Carrying out surveys using day nest tubes from March to November
  • Checking for other signs such as nut shells in the autumn
  • Encouraging Landowners to manage the habitat appropriately
  • Liaising with licensed workers when signs of dormouse found
  • Maintaining good relationships with landowners and keeping them informed of progress
  • Feeding survey results into local and national recording schemes such as: Dormice On Your Doorstep Project; Bristol Environmental Records Centre; Mammal Society.

What we have achieved

Pilot surveys carried out in 2007 at three sites. No Dormice found but two Yellow-Necked Mice found in tubes.
