Herb paris (Paris quadrifolia) Flora Project

Purpose of the project

To identify and map the flora of Cam Valley Wildlife Group area; and to increase members’ interest in, and enjoyment and knowledge of, the plant species and communities around us.

What that involves

  • Leading regular flora recording walks and botanical excursions
  • Holding identification workshops and giving talks
  • Carrying out surveys, recording and mapping the results
  • Regular monitoring of important sites to safeguard rare species and valuable habitat
  • Acting as a Lead Partner for the B&NES Bath Asparagus Local Biodiversity Action Plan
  • Exchanging records with other societies and with local Record Centres
  • Maintaining good relationships with landowners and keeping them informed of findings
  • Networking and maintaining good relationships with other relevant organisations, for example: BSBI, Somerset Rare Plants Group, Bath Naturalists, and other botanists.
  • Eventually producing a publication on the flora of the Cam and Wellow Valleys.

What we have achieved

In the last 7 years, we have had over 150 walks within the area, with over 40 members participating each year. We have collected about 30,000 records so far.
