View of Stephen's Vale Reserve Stephen's Vale Reserve

The group has an arrangement to manage this site in the village of Hallatrow in partnership with the owner, The Avon Wildlife Trust.

Stephen's Vale is part of the Greyfield Wood complex which is one of the most important groups of wildlife sites in the area. Greyfield is unusual in that much of it lies on acidic soils so that the plant communities found there are quite different from those found elsewhere in the Cam Valley.

Although parts of the site are heavily used, it has some interesting wildlife. It has ground flora - which contains several species typical of ancient woodland and the streamside - is one of very few sites in our area for the plant Small teasel. A good mix of woodland birds occur and Bloody-nosed Beetle lives in the bracken.
