The Mangledwurzels - A Wedding Band!

When The Mangledwurzels first formed, we envisaged that we would be playing pubs and clubs, maybe an agricultural show or two - and perhaps some music festivals. It didn't occur to us that we would be booked for weddings. How wrong we were!

The Mangledwurzels serenade the bridge at her weddingOur first appearance at a wedding reception was at Batcombe, in deepest darkest Somerset where The Mangledwurzels serenaded the wedding party under a large conker tree. As you can see from the picture (right), the bride was most amused!

On a later occasion, the bride at the reception (held at the Square and Compass in Ilminster) totally ruined her dress whilst enthusiastically dancing along to The Mangledwurzels; and at wedding reception in a large marquee near Wrington, The Mangledwurzels even performed for the couple’s First Dance. Not many couples celebrate the start of their married life by getting to waltz to Speedy Gonzalez!

This year, we have continued to provide the celebrations for numerous happy couples. All were wonderful events, but the highlight was probably a gorgeous sunny day playing outside in Chestnut Parade Green in Shepton Mallet. Anyone recalling the “summer of ’07” will know how rare and precious “gorgeous sunny days” were! In saying that our most northerly gig to date - a wedding reception in the Northamptonshire countryside in November - was a brilliant night with the bride and groom doing their First Dance to The Blackbird all tanked up on Cornish Rattler Cider!

Bookings for the Mangledwurzels to perform at weddings continue to come in and we are receiving numerous enquiries for both this year and next. It looks like The Mangledwurzels - although not initially by design - have become a Scrumpy & Western wedding band!

If you are interested in booking The Mangledwurzels for your wedding, please complete a booking enquiry form and we'll get back to you with availability and prices. You can check the band calendar to see whether The Mangledwurzels are available for a specific date.

As you can see from the band calendar, weekend dates do get booked up rather quickly, so it really is advisable to book early to avoid disappointment - unless you are willing to change your wedding plans just to have us there!

Please note that the band calendar does not show any other enquiries pending, and that first refusal is usually given to the first enquiry received.

Wedding Venues

The Mangledwurzels have played at weddings at the following venues. Some were just halls booked for the day, but those marked with a red star appeared to have excellent facilities and specialised in wedding receptions.

A good wedding relies on a lot of things coming together on the day. We can recommend the following companies as good people you can rely on to make sure everything goes smoothly:

Chris Lilley Catering and Marquee Services - Licensed catering and marquee hire. Chris is also an excellent MC at weddings to make sure everything goes smoothly.

John Woodhams Vintage Tours - these guys own Adge Cutler's vintage 1937 Bedford WTB with 25 seat coachwork by Duple. It is available for hire for weddings or other special occasion. They sometimes take the bride to the church, or guests to arrive in style! Based in Ryde, Isle of Wight.
