Ashgrove
Farm is a small family-run farm located
in the parish of Marden in the English
County of Herefordshire, set deep in
the countryside known as the Marches,
on the border with Wales. Ashgrove Farm,
the home of Rod and Rosie Hawnt and
their two daughters, sits astride the
'God Almighty' hill overlooking the
beautiful valley of the River Lugg.
The 65 acre farm is mainly down to permanent
pasture with two large traditional orchards,
making it the ideal setting for the
time-honoured Herefordshire practice
of combining livestock farming with
the growing of cider apples.
Ashgrove
Farm produces a range of traditional
cider drink products, made as a result
of a slow naturally controlled fermentation
of the pressed apple juice soon after
picking from their very own organic
cider apple orchards. The particular
varieties of trees in our two orchards
are up to 70 years old and produce an
excellent well-balanced blended cider
with its own distinct character, which
they feel captures the very essence
of Herefordshire. The orchards, which
are registered with Westons Cider as
either organic, or ‘in conversion’,
are grazed by Pedigree Hereford cattle
and flock of Pedigree Ryelands sheep.
Any apples not used for our own cider
products are supplied under contract
to Westons Cider. |
