Brothers
Cider is the brainchild of the Showring brothers
Matthew, Jonathan, Francis and Daniel. For
cider historians, that name is very familiar.
Gabriel Showring started making cider in Somerset
in 1658 (according to the Brothers website),
and the Showerings family have been brewers
and cider makers at Shepton Mallet for over
200 years. They became a national brand when
they launched Babycham in 1953. Showrings
merged with various other cider producers
including Gaymers and Coates Ciders becoming
the Taunton-Coates-Gaymer Ltd, Matthew Clark
of Taunton before finally being absorbed into
the Constellation Group.
The
new generation of Showring brothers have gone
back to their roots and set up a new company
producing a new range of bottled sparkling
perries (or pear ciders as they call them)
and ciders very much in the Babycham tradition,
but marketted to the youth of today. They
put the top quality of their produce down
to the ley lines that run under the pear orchards
around Glastonbury! |

Brothers
Ciders are rather at odds with this website's
vews on what a 'proper' perry or ciders is
- but they are still worthy of a mention.
They produce a range of sparking bottled drinks
- perhaps more alcopops than farmhouse ciders
- including Pear Cider (not 'perry'!), Pear
Cider - Festival Strength (first sold at the
Glastonbury Festival), Original Cider (pear
cider made from apples?), Strawberry &
Pear Cider and their new product Toffee Apple
Cider. |
