Henney's Cider Company Ltd.

Description

Mike Henney started making cider as a hobby in 1996 under the name Cheyney Lodge Cider (the name was changed on 1st October 2003). At that time, it was 5 gallons fermented in his airing cupboard, but the hobby got a bit out of hand and ten years later production has reached 100,000 gallons! (no longer in the airing cupboard).

The business is still run by Mike in close collaboration with some key service providers. These include Wyre Croft Farm at Bishops Frome who, as well as supplying apples, also mill and press all the fruit and provide storage for the juice. Other key services of packing and warehousing are provided by Integrated Branded Drinks Bottling in The Forest of Dean.

Mike’s objective is to make the best cider possible and provide customers with a great service. He believes this is best achieved by keeping every process as simple as possible.

Ciders

In keeping with the philosophy of simplicity Henney's Cider Company have just four products available:

  • Frome Valley Dry and Frome Valley Medium - Pleasant bittersweet apple flavour, well-balanced sweetness and acidity, not too astringent and without excessive bitter aftertaste associated with some traditional ciders.
  • Apple Blossom Cider - Crisp light and refreshing, medium sweet cooked apple flavour with a hint of citrus.
  • Frome Valley Apple (Sweet) - A blend of Frome Valley Dry Cider with concentrated apple juice which gives added sweetness and a fruitier flavour. Winner of the 2006 Tesco Brewing Awards Best Cider.
