Luscombe Cider

Description

Luscombe Farm started making cider about twenty years ago but it wasn’t until Gabriel David took over the business ten years ago and they started making ‘adult soft drinks’ that the business took off. The range is getting bigger all the time and the latest additions, raspberry and vanilla and strawberry lemonades are selling well.

Ciders

Traditional award-winning and lightly sparkling Devon cider made only from weird and wonderful Devon apple varieties such as Sops in Wine, Tale Sweet, Pig's Snout, Quench, Slack ma Girdle, and Tom Putt. Pressed on the farm and left to mature slowly in vats, the yeast naturally present on the skin of the apple creates the fermentation. A real pure Devon cider made with the best of traditional techniques and the best of modern methods.

Directions

Directions by road: From the A38, take the A384 towards Totnes. After half a mile turn right and then, after crossing the river Dart and the Dart Valley Railway, turn left onto a very slow and narrow road running along the west side of the valley. After one and a half miles (which feels more like three) turn right up the track to Luscombe.

The cider here is very good and well worth the journey. I recommend phoning before making the trip, as I have found it shut more than once. It is now (2000) more geared up for selling in bulk than to the passing traveller - all the more reason to phone first. [crofter.com]

Having checked several pints personally I can safely say it’s one of the most fantastic ciders in the county, if not the country! [David Jenkins, Hub-UK]
