Lyne Down Cider and Perry

"Herefordshire's best kept secret..."

Description

Lyne Down Farm sits on the edge of the Marcle Ridge in south Herefordshire an area famous for Cider and Perry making over the centuries. Fruit is used mainly from their own orchards comprising of some thirty different varieties of cider apples and perry pears. Still made the traditional way by using an ancient wooden scratter mill and 120 year old antique stone twinscrew presses the extracted juice is then fermented in oak barrels until such time is ready for sale as draft or bottled farmhouse cider and perry.

Ciders

Lyne Down cider and perry is made from pure fruit with nothing added. They blend different varieties creating specific recipes producing a clear and well balanced drink varying from medium sweet through to medium dry with alcohol contents from 5% to 7.8%..

Their famous ‘Roaring Meg’ cider (for which they won 1st prize at the Three Counties Show in 2006) is popular in both 500ml bottles and draught sold in 2.5, and 10 litre containers. In addition they make various single variety ciders including Kingston Black, Yarlington Mill and Stoke Red which are limited in quantity and often sell out before the end of the summer season.

Lyne Down perry varies with each vintage and comes bottled and slightly sparkling in a medium dry and also in still draught form which is a medium product. Again this product is in much demand and often sells out before the end of the summer season.

Lyne Down perry and cider is used in various recipes at the Bridge House Hotel & Restaurant in Ross on Wye, who are the proud winners of the Flavours of Herefordshire award for Restaurant of the Year 2005, 2006 and 2007. Lyne Down also sell cakes, Christmas hampers, t-shirts, and cider barrel tubs.
