| Description |
For
over 500 years cider apples have been
grown and pressed at the Perry's family
farm, nestled in the heart of Somerset,
the true cider county. The original
16th century thatched barn is not only
the centre piece of the farm, but is
still used every autumn to store and
press the season's apple harvest.
Established
in 1923 the Perry family continue the
tradition of growing and pressings all
their ciders on the original farm, partly
to conserve the traditional craft of
cider making, but also to take advantage
of the mild climate, rich soils, and
aspect of the area which lend themselves
to the production of high quality apples
and ciders alike.
Today
the cider farm remains very much a family
orientated company, now run by Henry's
wife and two sons John and Andrew, as
well as Henry's grandson George, the
fourth generation of commercial cider
makers in the family.
In
2003 and again in 2005 Perry's Cider
won the prestigious Worshipful Company
of Fruiterers Supreme Champion Cider
award at the Royal Bath & West show
beating some 200 other entrants from
across the UK and Europe.
Perry's believe our success as cider
makers stems from their commitment to
preserving the art of 'Real cider' making
traditionally crafted, free from artificial
colours, flavours, sweeteners and pressed
from real Somerset apples. |
| Ciders |
All
Perry's ciders are pressed, fermented
and bottled at the family farm, from
real Somerset cider apples sourced from
their own orchards and the surrounding
local orchards. Perry's only produce
'Real Ciders' free from artificial colours,
flavours, sweeteners and concentrate.
The
range includes:
- Single
Variety Ciders (Somerset Dabinett,
Morgan Sweet, and Somerset Redstreak)
- specially bottled ciders pressed
from a single type of cider apple,
unlocking the individual taste of
the apple, unlike our other ciders
which are a blend of up to 30 different
cider apples. Single Variety ciders
are fast becoming popular with cider
drinkers and judges alike, with their
Somerset Dabinett recently winning
the Supreme Cider trophy at the Bath
& West.
- Farmhouse
Draught Ciders - farmhouse ciders
are a blend of last years harvest,
light, fresh and reminiscent of the
ciders of yesteryear. Their farmhouse
ciders are available unfiltered as
a draught cider or filtered as a bottled
cider.
- Vintage
Ciders - selected from the best of
the apple harvest, the pressed juice
is fermented in wooden barrels before
being matured in aged port and sherry
barrels to allow their full character,
colour and unique taste to develop.

| Directions |
Directions
by road: More difficult to
describe than it is to find, but here
goes: from the A303 roundabout at the
junction with the A358 (Taunton - Chard
road), follow the road south-east through
Ilminster, then as you leave the town
take the right hand fork towards Kingstone.
At Kingstone, turn right then immediately
left, towards the village of Dowlish
Wake. Follow the bendy road to the village
and you will see the signs and the entrance
to the cider mill on the right. The
cider farm is signposted from the A303
- follow the "hay wain" brown
sign. |
