Sheppy's Cider Limited

Description

RJ Sheppy & Son is a family business based on 370 acres at Three Bridges Farm which the family have farmed since 1917. Three generations of the Sheppy family have weathered the ups and downs of farming and cider-making by embracing change and opportunity; few companies can claim to have been craftsmen cidermakers for over 200 years.

Quality is central to all their ciders, which are produced from home-grown apples at Three Bridges Farm. Modern technology has been used to assist the completely traditional production of fine English cider, but never to compromise the quality which is associated with the name Sheppy's Cider.

Sheppy's are happy to let you see where it's made, and are proud to share with visitors from far and wide our beautiful farm and orchards, and to show visitors as much as possible of how and where they make our delicious ciders.

Ciders

Sheppy's Farmhouse Draught at its finest made from a variety of home grown apples fermented in wood. Available in dry, medium or sweet; this is traditional scrumpy; it should be kept cool and consumed within two weeks. Alcohol 6% by volume.

In addition, Sheepy's produce a range of traditional farmhouse bottled ciders:

  • Bullfinch Cider (medium) is a light, medium, slightly sparkling cider, refreshing and bright. Smooth with plenty of taste... Gold Medal winner at the International Food Exhibition 1995, held at Earl's Court, London. The exhibition is held every other year and Sheppy's other award winning ciders are Kingston Black (1999) and Gold Medal (1997).
  • Goldfinch Cider - a dry, slightly sparkling cider, with a clear crisp flavour.
  • Oakwood Special Cider - the original flavour of Oakwood Special, created from a select blend of our finest traditional cider apples. It is an exceptional medium-dry lightly sparkling cider with a bright and refreshing taste.
  • Oakwood Draught Cider - The Cider with true West Country heritage... Blended to suit medium and dry tastes, Oakwood is a careful mix of home grown apples, fermented and matured in the finest oak vats. Available in dry and medium only.
  • Dabinett Apple Cider - The true taste of Cider. This single variety cider has an abundance of rich, sweet fruit aromas with a full-bodied taste which lends it's self well to a medium cider.
  • Kingston Black Cider - A rare and traditional single variety Cider. Originating in the vale of Taunton Deane, this apple variety is a shy bearer of high quality. The crimson red fruit which gives a refreshingly crisp flavour to this deliciously appley cider. Kingston Black is an old, and now rare traditional variety, highly prized for its clean full bodied aromas and well balanced, soft and juicy taste. Gold Medal winner at the International Food Exhibition 1999, held at Earl's Court, London.
  • Tremlett's Bitter Cider - For the Cider Connoisseur. A fine old Somerset cider apple. Its early ripening deep red streaky fruit produces juice with a high tannin content, the mark of quality found in traditionally made cider. Sheppy's Tremlett's Bitter is rich in flavour and medium/dry in taste.
  • Taylor's Gold Cider - Taylor's Sweet is an old Somerset cider apple, it is a mild and delicate variety which produces a cider with a light, refreshing flavour, and subtle aroma. This is a medium to sweet cider.
  • Gold Medal Farmhouse Cider - A strong, still vintage quality cider made from finest cider apples, such as Kingston Black, Dabinett, Yarlington Mill and Harry Master's Jersey. It is an excellent accompaniment to hot roasts. Available in dry, medium and sweet. Gold Medal winner at the International Food Exhibition 1997, held at Earl's Court, London.
  • Organic Cider - Made under organic standards from home-grown cider apples, this traditional cider spends time 'on the lees' after fermentation to develop a richer flavour. Available in dry and medium.
  • Cider with Honey - This unusual cider is made from our finest home grown cider apples and then blended with a small amount of best Somerset honey. This careful balance produces an excellent medium cider with a smooth, delicate flavour and pleasant aroma. Just try it and see!
  • Browns Apple Juice - A distinctive single variety juice with a refreshing and vibrant flavour.

User Comments

This was the first real scrumpy I bought as a lad with my mates on the way down to Torquay for a holiday. It was good stuff then, and it's still good. (Paul Gunningham)

The dry farmhouse is a good standard cider with no odd flavours. I have not tried the stronger Oakwood. (crofter.com)

The medium is quite possibly the best cider I have ever tasted! (Jethro Tool of The Mangledwurzels)
