The
Legge family has farmed at Shortwood
for more than 100 years, 2007 marking
the 20th anniversary of the farm was
open to the public. Leslie
and Sarah Legge first came to Shortwood
in 1903 with their children - John,
Nancy & Ruth. John drank cider for
breakfast, lunch, tea and supper, and
is remembered for his great physical
strength. He would carry a plough over
his shoulder to prevent the sharp points
from being worn down by cobblestones!
The
farm is open to the public as a 'family
farm', and there is no mention on the
website about buying cider from the
farm; however, they advertise 'Cider
Making' in October, and have a horsedrawn
cider press to crush the apples. See
website for details. |
