Welland
Valley Vineyard is a two acre English
Vineyard established in 1991 on a sheltered
south facing slope 3 miles south west
of Market Harborough on the border of
Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
Many different French and German vine
varieties are grown. The soil is loam
over Jurassic clay.
A
small quantity of cider is made on-site
from trees from traditional cider apples
including Michelin and Dabinett - initially
planted as a windbreak at the vineyard.
All cider is now bottled as Roundhead
English Cider - a still medium
dry cider at 6.5% strength - which is
available at a number of Leicestershire
farm shops where stocks allow. Cider
is often in short supply, particularly
in the spring. |
