Who
Are The Yetties?
The
Scrumpy & Western website would not be complete without
including a mention of Dorset's famous sons The Yetties.
They are still going strong and have their own web page run by long-serving
original band member Bonny Sartin. You are recommended to
visit Bonny's Official Yetties
Webpage for details of the band's current activities, and to
buy their latest CDs, merchandise, etc. The Scrumpy & Western
Yetties Page is intended to complement The Yetties' own
excellent page by providing some historical information not available
there, for the benefit of Scrumpy & Western fans. In
particular, we have built up what is intended to be a comprehensive
discography of all their records not currently
available, starting with the very earliest in 1968.
Contrary
to a popularly held theory, The Yetties did not
get their name because of their fancied resemblance to the fabled
hairy Himalayan monsters - although, come to think of it, looking
at those 1970s photos, I can see how this misunderstanding might
have occurred! But they got their name because they hail from the
Dorset village of Yetminster, near Yeovil and Sherborne.
Formed
way back the early 1960s, the band's original members were
Bonny Sartin, Pete Shutler, Mac McCulloch and
Bob Common. The line-up remained unchanged until 1979, when
Bob left. The remaining trio has continued to perform right
up to the present day. Over the years they have toured the world
and recorded a large number of albums, some of which are detailed
below. Apart from their own compositions, the band has built up
a huge repertoire of music of many types from diverse sources, including
folk songs, dance music and popular songs from England, Scotland,
Ireland, the US and other countries. Some of the Yetties' music
is probably outside the scope of the Scrumpy & Western
page, but throughout their career the Yetties have stayed true to
their Dorset roots in spite of their worldwide travelling - their
West Country humour and songs still form a much-appreciated
part of their act.

know of any records I've missed, please Don't
